The sugar glider (Petaurus breviceps) is a small arboreal marsupial famous for its gliding ability and large, expressive eyes.

Main Characteristics

Gliding Flight: Possesses a membrane (patagium) between its legs that allows it to glide up to 50 meters.

Marsupial: Females have a pouch to carry their young, like kangaroos.

Nocturnal Habits: It is more active at night and has keen eyesight and hearing.

Social: They live in colonies and are extremely sociable animals.

Habitat and Diet

Origin: Native to Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands.

Diet: Omnivorous. Loves sweet substances such as eucalyptus sap, nectar, and pollen, but also eats insects and small vertebrates.

As a Pet

Longevity: Can live up to 12-15 years in captivity.

Care: Requires tall cages for climbing and a strict diet. As it is a social animal, it should not be kept alone.
